Doppelgangers are a humanoid species made out of pure darkness. Unlike other shadow creatures, Doppelgangers are not gooey or drippy in appearance. They are a solid being. Only when they emerge from shadows are they gooey but only for a brief moment. They are named Doppelgangers because of their unique ability to shapeshift into any person, object, or animal that they choose. They can turn into a near perfect clone of the original person, animal, or object. They can live up to 120 years.

 

Height, Weight, and appearance

Height and weight vary from Doppelganger to Doppelganger but the average height for males is anywhere from 5-9 feet. The average height for females is anywhere from 5-8 feet. Children are almost a foot when they are born and grow to their full size once they reach the age of 15. They can weigh as much as an average human if not slightly above human weight. The common appearance of a Doppelganger is a black or near black humanoid figure with a slim to muscular body shape. It is possible for a Doppelganger to be chubby. Their hands and feet are tipped with sharp claws. All Doppelgangers have tails. It is their choice if they choose to cut off their tail or not. Females have thinner tails than males do. It is very easy to distinguish a male from a female. Females have breasts, thinner tails and can have longer hair. Males have no breasts, a thicker tail, and short to medium length hair. They can have anywhere from 2-8 eyes on their face. Several mouths also appear anywhere on the body.

 

Colors and Markings

The basic base color of the Doppelganger species is black. They can be ink black or near black. Color based Doppelgangers also exist. However, color based Doppelgangers can only be the dark shade of a color. They are supposed to be dark colors to blend into a shadow. They can never be bright or have rainbow colors. As for markings, they can be anything. The markings can be complex or simple. Do not confuse the extra mouths for markings. Markings are lighter colors. Inside of the mouth and the outline of the mouth is the color of the eyes. The tongue is a lighter shade of the eye color. The blood color of this species is purple. The shade of purple indicates the health of the Doppelganger. (Light purple means illness. Dark purple is normal.) The flesh color is dark purple.

Abilities and forms

Doppelgangers only have 2 forms, their Raw form, and their “Stolen” form. The Raw form is the normal shadowy appearance of the Doppelganger. In this form, they are able to possess a shadow, melt into the ground and become a shadow if there are no shadows nearby, regrow any lost limbs except for the tail, and finally shapeshift into whatever person, object or animal they see fit. Many choose to become humans or animals rather than objects. The ones that become objects are usually only there for spying. Once they find a human that they like and want to become, the Doppelganger will possess that person’s shadow and follow them until the person is alone. Then the Doppelganger will emerge from the shadow and bite their victim, ingesting their blood. Most choose to kill their victim after they have ingested the blood but others choose to imprison their victims. Once the blood is swallowed, they are now able to shapeshift. This is referred to as their “Stolen” form. The majority of this species become humans to mess up the lives of the original human they attacked. Others choose to try to improve the lives of their victim and the rest either choose to become wild animals to learn about them or become pets to bond with a human. How to tell if a person is actually a Doppelganger is by looking at their eyes. Unnaturally colored eyes and sharper than normal canines are a sign. Inexperienced Doppelgangers still have their claws and will always wear gloves, shoes, or slippers to hide them. The blood is still purple. Once they have shapeshifted into their victim, they obtain all the skills, thoughts, memories, dreams, and/or disabilities of their victim.

 

Mating

Doppelgangers have 3 genders: male, female and hermaphrodite. Males and females have normal reproductive organs but they are hidden most of the time. Herms can be a male with a female reproductive organ or a female with a male reproductive organ. However, males with female reproductive organs are more common than females with male reproductive organs. They are not picky about genders when choosing a mate. It’s all about their preference. For example, in a male and female couple, the male will slide out his tongue and purr when he is ready to mate. Now they mate in a manner similar to humans but they also use their tongues. The couple will kiss and swallow their partner’s tongues while also mating with them. Why they do this is unknown. The extra mouths will lick their partner’s bodies to try to excite them. Mating usually lasts for an hour. If they choose to mate again, the couple will have to wait for a few minutes before mating again. Once the mating is complete, the couple will groom and clean each other. This is also a test of their bond. Pregnancy lasts 8 months.

 

Diet

There are 5 known diet types for this species: carnivore, herbivore, omnivore, cannibal, and man-eater. It is very rare for a Doppelganger to be a cannibal but it’s uncommon for a Doppelganger to eat humans.

 

Weaknesses

Because they are darkness creatures, the light is their weakness. Sunlight means death to a Doppelganger so they must become either a shadow or shapeshift into someone or something to prevent them from burning. Sunlight and bright lights will only burn or kill a Doppelganger in their Raw form. If one is exposed to sunlight, the Doppelganger will hiss and screech in pain and try to get away from the light. If out in the light for too long, the Doppelganger will slowly and painfully burn up. They can also die in their Stolen form but usually only from a severe injury like decapitation. Poisoning, drowning, Stabbing, etc are also ways of killing them in their Stolen form.

-Animal features (ears, paws, etc)

-Missing limbs (born without an arm for example)

Children

All Doppelgangers are only born from other Doppelgangers. They cannot be form from humans or animals, meaning that Doppelgangers only breed with other Doppelgangers. When a child is born, great care must be taken in order for the child to grow into a healthy adult. An infant exposed to any kind of light will not survive, unless the light is very dim. Young Doppelgangers behave in a way similar to human children except they are more active at dawn and dusk. They are only able to shapeshift once they reach the age of 10. Children often have the markings of both parents if their parents have markings. At the age of 18-20, many young Doppelgangers choose to leave their parents to begin their own life but some choose to stay with their families. In extremely rare cases, an albino Doppelganger will be rejected by their birth mother.

 

Headworld

It is unclear when the first Doppelganger appeared but there have been reports of shadow figures being seen in the early 1800s. Since then, this species has increased in numbers. Over 3 billion Doppelgangers currently exist in the year 2305. Human population has dropped down to 5 billion due to many wars, natural disasters, and disease outbreaks. Individual countries and continents still exist but are more united. Most humans are aware of the Doppelganger race and try to put an end to them. On the other hand, there are people who befriend and even live with Doppelgangers. The Doppelganger is worshipped by some cults, the largest cult being in New York. This cult is called The Shadow People Cult. This cult has over 1500 members and new ones join every day. The purpose of this cult is to worship and praise the Doppelgangers for what they are and to protect them from other humans. Members of this cult believe that if they are chosen as a target for a Doppelganger, they will be cleansed of their sins and have a chance of being reborn as a Doppelganger. Outfits vary from cult to cult but members of the Shadow People Cult must wear the traditional garb consisting of a long black hooded robe with a black mask covering their faces. The robes have a tail. The Church of the Shadow People is the largest church in New York for these cult members and is protected by the city’s government. There are gift shops featuring figurines and decorations of Doppelgangers near areas of smaller cults.

 

Rules and regulations of the Shadow People Cult

-All members must obey the cult leader, Samantha Moore.

-Anyone that disobeys the cult leader will be punished.

-Once you join the cult, you cannot leave unless you have written permission from the leader or the Speaker.

-Only the leader and the Speaker can speak directly to a Doppelganger.

-Members must wear their robe and mask when entering the church or the main building.

-Doppelgangers cannot be harmed.

-Members must treat Doppelgangers with the highest respect and praise them.

-In the presence of a Doppelganger, members must bow respectfully.

-Members must attend gatherings every Tuesday and Saturday night.

-Members can be excused from the gathering if a family or medical emergency occurs.

-Members attend church at least once a week.

-Anyone caught harming, harassing or even killing a Doppelganger will be punished and sacrificed to The Behemoth, the largest and most feral Doppelganger currently in existence.

-Moth (nickname for Behemoth) must be fed everyday. Speaker will supervise members.

-Moth must have an offering of fruit and meat every day.

-a random member will be chosen to feed and play with Moth.

-Meetings last from 7 pm to 9 pm.

-Every meeting will provide food and beverages.

-Members are encouraged to spread the word about the cult and the wonderful things it offers.

-Speak nicely and calmly when talking to nonmembers about joining the cult.

-Do not force nonmembers to join. It gives the cult a bad reputation.

-Treat other members with respect.

-Members must pray once a night before going to bed.

-Vandalism of other property is not encouraged. Do not do this. You will get in trouble by the leader.

-Gifts and donations are always welcome in the cult. Help us keep the cult going and the Doppelganger race thriving.

-Before leaving a gathering, members must say, “May the Shadow People watch over us.”

-Cult members must show the Speaker the cult symbol before entering the main building or church.

-Remember our slogan, “We are one with the Shadows.”
